We Keep Us Safe: Angela

Words that Bleed, by Poet Activist Angela Brown

I got issues and Ive been hurt
Many times and again
I walked out of luv’s addition, an affliction
My obsession to walk away
I can't leave, I can't hide
I fight to stay alive
My luv won't subside from use
Of being abused
Words can make me, break me
Words can take me
Words have mistaken me
For someone who cares
I believed luv, I was unaware
For all the wrong reasons
Luv reminds me of my Dad
Dad don’t preach, don’t teach
Whenever, whatever from the start
I avoided luv’s expectations
Luv lessons from the heart

I chanced my fate, luv and hate
Luv does not negotiate
My poem bleeds

Rebellious I learned to shut out luv
Kept luv’s words for what it’s worth
The pain in my heart
From shutting luv out
Wit thoughts of suicide
I turned, I burned
Alone I yearned, wit no shoulder to cry on
I trusted luv in the worst way
I escaped, I raced
I chanced luv wit my fate, luv and hate
Luv does not negotiate

I chanced my fate, luv and hate
Luv does not negotiate
My poem bleeds

When we first met
Luv I knew like no other
No one cares like luv cared
I got luv’s interest in general
I lived inside an alibi for truth
Beyond the rage of being used
I lived a lie of infactuated truth
I was in doubt luv existed
Fighting the hate luv persited
I cover the pain inside
My poem bleeds

Whenever, whatever from the start
Whenever luv backed down
Kept your word for what its worth
I chanced my fate, luv and hate
Luv does not negotiate
My poem bleeds

I got issues and Ive been hurt
I walked out of luv’s addition, an affliction
Writing is my obession
My words bleeds
My words bleeds
